India's first Association of Electro Technical Officers
The position of an Electro Technical officer is most vital in the technical hierarchy of today's advanced ships with automated and conventional electrical systems. This fact is well appreciated by the shipping companies and authorities across the world.
But, most of the times, the issues and grievances concerned to them were unheard. ETOs & E/Os always lacked a proper representation in both national and international organizations as well as in the seminars or conventions conducted by those organizations.
This made the marine ETOs to realize the significance of being united and which led to the birth of an exclusive union.
AMETO came into existence in a meeting of nearly 200 ETOs which was held in Mumbai in 27th March 2015 and became a registered trade union under the Trade Union Act of India.
The outcry for a separate union for Electrical officers started decades back due to the discrimination an Electrical Officer faces both on board and from various authorities. Many tried to start a separate unions in various occasions, but due to lack of chance to unite sailing ETOs it remained in dreams. On 17th March 2015, the Association of Marine Electro Technical Officers (AMETO) was founded by Shri. Sebi Thomas and Shri. Ratnesh Kumar after their three years hard work and struggle.
